Well, I inadvertently took a few weeks off from blogging. Life has been extra crazy and I’m willing to blame life in part for that. Maybe it’s because I found out last year that my newborn daughter has a milk allergy. So – I force myself to crack the milk from the time I drank. So what does this have to do with piping canned frosting? *Most* Canned Frosts do not contain milk! So I was party planning trying to figure out what to do with her first birthday cake. That’s when I put two and two together and realized that I could make the birthday cake by using canned frosting from the grocery store and still piping it.

Now – wait now. I know I’m about to be inundated with HATE mail because I fed my one year old canned frost. I recognize a lot of their “stuff” in tin frostings. Not everything is good for you. However; Sometimes you just have to live a little and try to forget what’s there. Yes-this is coming from me who is relatively health conscious. Yes, I realize I should have made vegan buttercream. But I didn’t have the time or energy to check. Sometimes you just want an easy shortcut, and that’s why I’m sharing my “hack” for how to whip up canned frosting. Scoop half of the frosting into a small piping bag. Heat the remaining frosting (in the can) in the microwave until melted (about 15-20 seconds). You should be able to ask. Mix it well. Pour them into a gourd bottle. Line the cookie with room temperature frosting in the piping bag. This acts as a barrier and holds the melted frost in place.

I tried using a piping bag for “melted” frosting and it ran everywhere. The best tool for this task is a squeeze bottle. Why bother when you can use a spoon, but you don’t have to? Go to Walmart and spend a dollar and get a squeeze bottle. You can find them in the party section along with the baking materials.
