Weird Science Dc Comics: Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Five Chapter #29 Review

Injustice is a console fighting game set in an alternate DC universe where Superman has become a dictator. This prequel graphic novel takes place five years before that, when he is married to Lois Lane. At the beginning of the book, his path begins with his death, and Tom Taylor’s plot lays out many opportunities for regression or reflection, and each time Superman makes the wrong choice and increases his fate. In the places he’s done, sometimes it’s surprisingly easy, but Taylor makes sure he handles it believably, the final decision-making process on his own despite Superman’s whispers and whispers in his ear.

The establishment of Superman and his sympathetic allies as the world’s de facto rulers does not happen quickly, and it does not come without opposition, chief among them is Batman, who cleverly wears a growing arsenal as the story progresses. In some ways, the twelve chapters are a sad cycle of friendships falling apart because of ideas, but they are skillfully written because even though Taylor directs our sympathy towards Batman’s vision, it is not an uncompromising or flawless way.

First produced as a digital comic in the weekly installments of the DC website, the content has a disjointed feel. The busy schedule provided work for many artists, with Tom Derenick, Mike S. Miller, and Jeremy Raapack producing another ten or so pages between them. A sample page on Metropolis, destroyed in a nuclear explosion, is Miller’s work, but all three produce strong superhero plots and their muscular freedom is typical of the genre.

Superman Vs Batman (injustice Gods Among Us Year 5)

While Batman and Superman are the main characters, a number of other DC characters also have a role, some given enhanced powers and others not seen in this story. Most of the Justice League aligns with Superman to begin with, but gradually revolves around Batman as the world gets worse. While learning that DC has a few people who can match Superman’s powers will make them invisible at first, Taylor makes the most of them and gives good reasons why they don’t show up in the shows. Among these there is a surprising combination. The use of Aquaman is great, there’s resonance in Billy Batson’s solo chapter, and Alfred may not be around much of the time, but his time speaks for itself with one well-delivered acid note. “Are you staying at Tea Master Kent?” he asks when Superman arrives at the Batcave. “I’m not afraid Alfred”, replies Superman, “You don’t need to call me ‘Master'”. “Okay,” replies Alfred, “let’s remember that”. Not all gels as expected, but Taylor put a lot of thought into how to put together the cast, what are their thoughts, and how this can be surprising in the big picture. The Mirror Master has a nice role, appearing annoyingly throughout Robin, but others are lost in the exchange. For example, Black Lightning, who is among those who do the numbers?
