Joshua And Caleb Spies Story – The Israelites left Mount Sinai and went through the desert of Paran to a place called Qadis. There, Jehovah told Moses: “Send a man from each tribe to spy out Canaan, the land that I will give to the Israelites. The land is good for growing food. See whether the people are weak or strong and whether they live in tents or in cities.’ 12 spies including Joshua and Caleb went to Canaan.
After 40 days, the spies returned with figs, pomegranates and grapes. The spies reported, ‘It is good land, but the people are strong and the walls of the cities are high.’ Then Caleb said, ‘We can conquer them. Let’s go now!” Do you know why Caleb said that? Because he and Joshua believed in Jehovah. But the other ten spies said, “No! The people there are big, like giants! We looked like grasshoppers to them.”
Joshua And Caleb Spies Story
The Israelites were discouraged. They began to complain and say to each other: ‘Let us choose another leader and return to Egypt. Why should we go to this place and be killed?” Joshua and Caleb said, “Do not disobey Jehovah and do not be afraid. Jehovah will protect us.” But the Israelites did not listen. They even wanted to kill Joshua and Caleb!

When it was time for the Israelites to move to their new home, Joshua was sent with other spies to scout out the new land. This example story will help children learn about Joshua and the importance of trusting God to overcome all obstacles. Today we are in the Old Testament book that Moses wrote in Numbers 13-14. God told Moses to appoint one man, a leader, from each tribe of Israel to spy out the land of Canaan. There were 12 tribes, so 12 men were sent to explore the land of Canaan. Moses told them to go south, to the mountains.
They should have seen how the residents were doing. How many were there? How was the country, good or bad? Is there a forest? Are cities like camps or dungeons? He told them to be brave (be brave) and bring some fruit from the earth. It was the season of ripe grapes.

They explored the land and returned after 40 days. Numbers 13:25 He told the people that the land flowed with milk and honey and showed the people the grapes that he had brought from the valley of Eshcol. The branch was a bunch and it was so big that it had to be carried between two men on a pole! They also brought some pomegranates and figs. He also told them that the people there are strong and the cities are big and safe.
Caleb calmed the people and said to them, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we can overcome it.” Numbers 13:30 But others who spied out the land said, “The people are stronger than we are. We cannot prevail against them! They are tall like giants, and we are like grasshoppers!” Numbers 13:33
People complained and said we should have stayed in Egypt just to die! However, they did not believe enough in God and His power! But Joshua and Caleb, 2 of the men who explored the land of Canaan, tore their clothes and spoke to everyone. They told the people that this is a very good land, and if the Lord is pleased with them, he will give them the land. This is the land that ‘flows with milk and honey’! But do not fight against the Lord and do not be afraid of the people of Canaan. The Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them! (vs. 8-9) The people were so upset that they wanted to stone Joshua and Caleb!

God told them that all people over the age of 20 would die in the desert because of their lack of faith. Only Caleb and Joshua and the young people will enter the Promised Land. Numbers 14:29-30
Because some of the spies did not believe that God would protect them, and they searched the land for 40 days, God forced the people to wander in the desert for 40 years (1 year for every 1 day). Numbers 14:34 Joshua and Caleb were the only spies who believed in God. Another 10 died of the plague. Numbers 14:37
(The mummies are dollar tree soldiers and are the same guys I used for the Ark of the Covenant. My nieces helped me wrap them in paper towels, we talked about what I wanted. And I want white but I don’t have enough clothes. Matty said, “How about toilet paper” and I said, “Good idea, but we’re going to use paper towels”! Wanted to take it off and use the boys for something else. So we wrapped them tightly, used tape on the back and a string to complete the effect. I wanted to show the kids. (that the 12 were sent by God, but only 2 really believed that God would continue to protect them, take care of them, watch over them, etc.)
The Walls Of Jericho Came Tumbling Down
After wandering in the desert, Moses went to the top of Mount Abarim to see the Promised Land. Numbers 27:12 Moses appointed Joshua as the next leader. Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. Moses lived for 120 years. Deuteronomy 34:7
This is a visual I’m making for the 12 spies returning from the promised land. I used 2 can dolls, covered them in bible cloths, added a stick and part.
