But one of the other ways I like to clear my head and relax is to create art. Drawing and coloring has always been my passion since I was four years old. I love that adult coloring books have become a “thing” in recent years and it’s great to see adult coloring pages available at Cricut Design Space. I have to try it.

For this coloring book, I pulled up the 8 image files available on the Cricut All access plan by searching for “color” in the images. In the design area, you can also find some Print then Cut coloring pages for adults to save time.

I love watching the drawing work, even if it takes a bit of time. Luckily, Cricut Maker does all the work for you!

I adjusted all of my pictures to be 5.5 inches wide so I could paste them into a simple book I made by folding paper in half and gluing it down. Now that I have my little adult coloring book ready, I can use my favorite relaxing Pandora station and clear my mind by coloring in this fun adult coloring book.

Before you start drawing your page, you need to do a little planning. First and foremost: decide how big your coloring book will be. You can make it any size you want, but the easiest is to make it 8.5″x11″ so you can easily scan and print pages from home.

Be sure to think about alignment as well. It might be a bit annoying for someone to flip through your coloring book and have, for example, lots of vertical and horizontal pictures. So try to align each image vertically or horizontally.

Expert advice: Keep your first coloring book simple. Start with a design of about five pages so you can practice putting your book together. You don’t have to launch a 50-page monster right away.

If you know you’ll be using marker to color your page, don’t use double-sided pages – the heavy marker pigment will show through and ruin the image on the back. It’s also not a bad idea to leave a white page between each image, just in case.

The paint medium you plan to use also makes a difference to your design. For example, using watercolors versus colored pencils will affect how you draw your lines and how much or how little space you leave. When it comes to watercolors, you’ll want to keep the design simple with room to breathe. Colored pencils or markers, on the other hand, can be much more precise for coloring in finer details.

The coloring book has thick black and white pages. Therefore, if you work by hand, a large ballpoint pen or black marker is ideal for creating your drawing. Pages can also be drawn digitally, if that is your preferred method.

While confident artists can certainly draw pages by hand, many choose to start with a pencil sketch to help establish composition and layout before making it permanent. Once you are happy with the sketch, add ink over it, wait for it to dry and erase all visible pencil lines. Work page by page until you have a few finished images.

Once the page is finalized, it’s time to scan it. If you are working on 8.5″x11″ paper, your computer will easily format the scanned image into printable pages — other sizes may require some photo editing.

Print all pages at the same size. Trim the page if there is a lot of excess white space. Arrange the pages in the order you want.
